Julia Gaudinski

Dr. Julia Gaudinski is the Research Director for WIRC and brings three areas of capability. First, she is a climate scientist with research expertise in terrestrial carbon cycling, particularly in forests. Second, she brings experience in strategic grant getting having built the centralized five-person Research Development unit within the Division of Research and Innovation at San Jose State University (SJSU) between 2019 and 2022. Third, she knows how to communicate science to diverse audiences. The mission of her 2012-2016 startup, “Mobile Ranger,” was to “connect people to places” by telling compelling stories of place based on information from science and history experts. Julia holds Bachelor’s degrees in Earth Science and Environmental Studies from the University of California Santa Cruz and a Ph.D. from the University of California Irvine in Earth System Science.

Werner Goveya

Werner Goveya

Werner Goveya is the IT Research Specialist at WIRC. He works on a variety of their technology related projects covering hardware, software, systems and operations. He has worked in the field of manufacturing, chemical and mechanical engineering using supply chain models to compute valuations and improve efficiencies. His main interest is designing efficient models by scientifically improving the tools and processes that they run on. In his spare time he loves to cook, work on cars and travel. He holds an Industrial Engineering degree from Mumbai University and an Executive MBA from Santa Clara University.

IT Research Support Specialist

Mike Voss

Mike is a California native with 30 years of experience as a professional meteorologist.  He earned a B.S. from UCLA in 1987, and an M.S. in Atmospheric Science from U.C. Davis in 1995.  Mike worked at SJSU Meteorology from 1995 to 2010, and then moved to PG&E from 2010 to 2019 to be Principal Meteorologist.   During that time Mike played a key role in developing PG&E's fire weather intelligence systems.  Mike is currently back at SJSU as Staff Meteorologist, Technician, and Lecturer in the department of Meteorology and Climate Science, where he teaches the senior level Synoptic Weather Analysis and Forecasting course and guides the PG&E Model Visualization Project for the Wildfire Interdisciplinary Research Center.  Mike specializes in developing meteorological information systems and automated forecast visualization systems.

Annalisa Consani

Center Administrative Coordinator

Annalisa is the Center Administrative Coordinator at WIRC. She has a background in supporting companies administratively, including print and digital marketing, website maintenance, customer outreach and management, and hosting workshops and events. Annalisa brings expertise in optimizing office operations and supports both SJSU and WPI in this role. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology and History from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
